In this post we will see how to make money with Amazon links through its affiliate program. We will also see, what are the best strategies to maximize conversions and make your blog or online store profitable.

After seeing how to create and monetize a blog and a web page, I will talk about the Amazon Affiliate Program, also known as Amazon Associates. In this post I will explain what it is and how we can get money from this giant multinational company.  

Many bloggers and Webmasters believe the only way to monetize a blog or a page is with advertising. Just enough to put some banners and ready, they are going to get rich.

When you have more experience in online business, you soon realize that it is not the case. To earn lots of money with advertising you need hundreds of thousands of page views per month. To achieve this result, it is necessary to invest a large amount of money in the growth of the site (content, SEO, among others). Obviously, many sites will never reach these numbers (although they can generate an interesting amount as passive income).

But fortunately, there are many other ways to monetize a website, blog or online store. Among these is Affiliate Marketing. This form of monetization is to promote other people’s products in exchange for a commission. And this is the one way that we are going to look at …

How to make money with Amazon Affiliate links

Despite what many “gurus” believe, Affiliate Marketing can generate more money than advertising; and if done well can generate a good passive income.

Commissions are low at Amazon, but it has a very high conversion, so it is compensated. And since I started working with Amazon, I have been generating an income of $300 to $500 per month in a totally passive way. I know it’s not much, but it’s not too bad knowing the little work it requires.

Also to achieve these gains with AdSense, assuming you have a CTR of 1%, you would need about 100,000 visits per month.

But, what is an affiliate program?

Many sites, especially e-commerce, offer affiliate programs. Which allows you to earn a percentage of each sale you generate through your website. In general, to use it, you must follow these requirements:

• Have your own website, if you have no idea how to, here is a tutorial.
• Enroll in the affiliate program.
• Generate the affiliate link of a product you want to promote (through a web interface),
• Put the link on your website (usually within a page that talks about that product).

In this way, if a reader accesses your website, and clicks on this link, it will be redirected to the official page where the product is sold. And if you then buy the product, you will take a commission. 

And at the end of each month you will be paid all your commissions. So making money with Amazon Affiliates is easy and fast.

However, commissions for physical products are generally very low (3-10 percent). In contrast, for digital products, such as e-books, where the manufacturer has a higher margin, the commissions are higher; where they can even reach 30-70%.

Why Choose the Amazon Affiliate Program?

There are thousands of affiliate programs on the market. Some are managed directly from e-commerce sites; others by special “collectors” sites where you can find programs related to many different topics.

Why then choose the Amazon affiliate program? 

The reasons are many and I will explain that to you next.  First, the Amazon affiliate program has several important advantages for affiliates:

• Their commissions are quite good. Often higher than those of competitors, and can range from 5% to 10% depending on the categories of products.
• Amazon always pays. If you have not reached the minimum threshold ($10 for a transfer, $10 for a gift card, and $100 for a check), your commissions will be saved until they reach the threshold. Then a payment will be made (this does not happen with other affiliate programs).
• The interfaces to use to generate the links and search for products to promote is very simple and intuitive.
• It gives you very detailed reports (income, orders, link tracking, etc). And allows you to analyze the performance of each campaign.
• It gives you several tools to promote the products (banners, texts, images, among others).
• The service is fast and accurate.
• It has an appropriate forum for its affiliates so they can exchange advice, help and opinions on how to make money with Amazon Affiliates.
• Amazon’s affiliate program is virtually identical all over the world. So it’s easy to find tutorials and help in other Internet forums The Amazon page converts very well , it is designed to make customers buy.
• You can earn commissions, no matter what the customer buys that product or not. Example: a customer accesses through your link to buy a television, and suddenly buys some shoes, Amazon will pay you the commission as well. Also, if you buy more than one item, you also receive a commission for each product you buy (for 24 hours, which is the duration of the cookie or 30 days if the user adds the order to the shopping cart).

Amazon is a money-making machine …

This last point is very important, because, Amazon is a money-making machine: The moment the prospect enters the page through your affiliate link, Amazon begins to send them recommendations, and suggestions so that they can buy more than one product.

So, basically, Amazon does all the selling for you. There is nothing more that you can do but to hope that your prospect will buy the product they were looking for (or any other products as we have seen earlier) within 24 hours, or, at least place something into their shopping cart.

Ok, I hope I’ve convinced you about the advantages of the Amazon affiliate program. Now let’s talk about what really matters.

Here are a few tips to help you make money with your Amazon affiliate links quickly and easily …

In the last part of the article, I will explain what are the basic techniques that I use to maximize my profits?

1 – Do not use banners

I often read comments from people who experiment with affiliate programs and abandon them because they earn almost nothing. Most of these people make the same mistake: for them to use an affiliate program means placing some banners or links in more or less generic positions of their website.

You must not make the same mistake. Why is it that you must not use banners then? The reasons are many:

• Many users have already seen these banners over and over and they know that you are advertising to sell them something.
• Generic banners, like those that promote generic categories, do not give the customer motivation to click on them.
• A banner placed in the sidebar or other generic position is not contextualized with the content of the page, so they do not receive as many clicks as a contextual link.

Therefore, you have to insert the links in the content in order to capture the user while they are reading!

2 – The strategy that sells the most is product reviews

Anyone who is making money with Amazon will tell you the same thing: the best way to increase your conversions is by creating product reviews and inserting affiliate links in the text. Here there is no escape, if you want to earn as an Amazon affiliate you must write reviews.

Also, if you want to get the maximum results they should be sincere reviews, therefore, if you have not tried the product, I recommend doing an investigation and know how it works. So that you can offer all the quality content to the user. If he is satisfied and eager to acquire the product, he will buy.

3 – How to maximize your conversions

Another common mistake is to insert a single link in the review or perhaps one at the beginning and another at the end. To maximize the conversion rate, what you have to do is insert the affiliate link in several places within the review. Not only that, you also have to use different types of links if you really want to maximize revenue and make money with Amazon.

First of all, there is of course the contextual link that is inserted within the body of the text. Enter it at least three times, or more if the review is longer.

Basically, the reader should be able to click on a link to buy all the time throughout the text, so he does not have to search for it.

The second option is offered by Amazon Affiliates, which is the iframe of the product. This is a much more sophisticated visualization, which includes an image of the product, the price, and of course the link to buy. It also offers other buttons, such as “buy now”.

However, the iframe made by Amazon is not too elaborate; so the most common is to choose to create one with a WordPress Plugin specialized in affiliate marketing. In addition, you will also find really fantastic options that can redirect the user to the right store.

4 – Use the tracking ID

Amazon offers the possibility to use Id’s to follow – up on each link you create. These are simple sequences of characters that can be created using the tools provided on the affiliate program website. Each time a link is created, you can associate a specific tag with it, in order to identify it.

A very common mistake is the use of a single tag, which was created in the registry, for all affiliate links posted on the site. 

Why is it an error? Using a different tag for each link and for each type of link, you can instantly identify clicks that lead to the product. So do not waste this great option, as it will allow you to measure statistics in much more detail.

5 – Save time and effort with EasyAzon

When you start creating several reviews and pages and in each insert several links, an image with the price and other information about the product, as well as the «Buy now» button, you will realize that it is quite boring and consumes a lot of time. 

Fortunately, there are several tools to help you accelerate this process and start earning money with Amazon affiliate links faster (like the one I mentioned above when we talked about iframe). In my opinion it is the best investment you can make.

If you are using WordPress for your website, I highly recommend the EasyAzon plugin. This plugin is indispensable if you do not want to spend hours and hours creating reviews. It also gives you an important advantage over other affiliates that are not using it.

EasyAzon allows you to create links directly from within WordPress, while you are writing the review. In addition, it offers some templates that allow a single click to see the product in a more attractive way that will increase your sales drastically.

It’s a 2 in 1:

• it saves you several hours of effort and
• considerably increases your conversion.

I have been using it for a year on one of my reviews websites and since I installed it I have noticed a significant increase in sales and in general conversion.  The only flaw is that it is a payment plugin. Its cost is $47, at the time of writing this post.

In my opinion it is worth making this investment, since it is very easy to recover the cost, taking into account the time savings and the increase in sales that you will get with it.

Conclusion

If you are still monetizing your site only through AdSense and your income does not allow you to make ends meet, I strongly recommend that you try to make money with affiliate marketing, especially with Amazon affiliate links. It is easy and quick.

But it will not earn you a full time income!

Fortunately, there are other affiliate programs that can earn you a full time income which will allow you to stay at home and leave your day job, retire early (like I did years ago).
