  2. I have been in the restaurant industry for 25+ years, and I watched the landscape change from paper tickets to printed ones, and have seen the worst P.O.S. and have seen some pretty amazing ones as well.

The new age of receiving orders and reservations online still blows me away. It increased the amount of dishes I cooked in a shift which proves the effectiveness of a good system. But it blows me away to see how much the industry has changed by relying on digital platforms for tracking not only food orders from customers but the food ordered by the restaurant as well. The amount of each dish ordered to see what is the top seller.

These systems if set up well can help track the labor and all overhead costs of running your restaurant so you can see where you need to improve. From the owner’s viewpoint, this is priceless information all the way around.

I was there when the online orders started coming in, and the biggest issue we had back then was, that the waitress had to accept the order for the kitchen to receive it and prepare the food.

I have since changed careers after that so I am not sure if they got that straightened out, I know we had a few customers show up expecting their food to be ready, and we had just started preparing it.

I can only see the future of the restaurant business thriving with the new technologies that are advancing.

    Fascinating article.

    • Hi Stacie,

It’s incredible to hear about your extensive experience in the restaurant industry, spanning over 25 years! Your firsthand perspective on the evolution from paper tickets to digital platforms is invaluable.

Indeed, the transition to online orders and reservations has revolutionized how restaurants operate. The ability to receive and manage orders digitally has significantly increased efficiency, allowing for a higher volume of dishes to be prepared in each shift. And you’re absolutely right about the insights provided by these systems—they offer invaluable data on everything from customer preferences to overhead costs, empowering restaurant owners to make informed decisions and drive improvements.

Your anecdote about the early days of online orders highlights a common challenge many restaurants faced during the transition period. However, it’s reassuring to know that advancements have likely addressed such issues over time, ensuring smoother operations and customer satisfaction.

I’m thrilled that you found the article fascinating. If you ever want to share more insights from your vast experience in the industry or have any questions about the latest restaurant technologies, feel free to reach out.

      Best regards,
